Here is my quilt. The patterns are made with stamped paint and stencils. Once I made specific patterns with the stencils and stamped paint, I cut each piece out into 2x2 inch squares to glue onto my piece of construction paper. I love how bright this piece turned out to be!
An extension activity I would do with stamped paint and stencils would include a 2nd grade classroom, due to this activity being messy, if not careful. I would use this piece to go along with a math activity. In 2nd grade, students begin advancing their skills when using patterns. Therefore, after a math lesson on patterns, I would have each student paint on at least five pieces of paper with a different pattern and color for each piece. Once finished, I'd have the students cut out their pieces and make a quilt like this one. However, the students' main goal would not be so much to create a colorful piece of artwork, but specifically create specific and consistent patterns to show they understand the content of the lesson.
